Glial Fibrillary Acidic Protein (GFAP) is the principle intermediate-filament of mature astrocytes. In the central nervous system, it is a major component of astrocytes, ependymal cells, and retinal Muller cells; it is expressed in rare ependymal cells and cerebral radial glia; mature oligodendrocytes do not express GFAP. Outside the CNS, GFAP is also expressed in Schwann cells, Kupffer cells, and chondrocytes.
The antibody labels GFAP and is a useful tool for the identification of astrocytes in the CNS under normal and pathological conditions.GBI Product Description |
