Vimentin is ubiquitously expressed in mesenchymal cells such as fibroblasts, smooth muscle cells,
and endothelium. Co-expression of Vimentin and Cytokeratin is indicative of epitheloid sarcoma.
Vimentin expression may change as a tumor becomes more aggressive.
The antibody is specific for Vimentin and does not recognize any other intermediate filaments,
including desmin and glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP). It is used as part of an antibody panel
(e.g. antibodies against other types of intermediate filaments) for differential diagnostics especially
in soft tissue tumors. The antibody also serves as an internal control system to monitor any
