The antibody reacts with wild-type and mutant type p53 protein. It is a useful tool to detect p53 overexpression. In many tumor types p53 appears to have prognostic significance.
Wild-type p53 protein is present in normal cells but due to a very short half-life it is below the detection level by immunohistochemistry assay. Somatic mutation of the p53 gene is a frequent event in human neoplasia. The mutant p53 protein is more stable and is accumulated to a high level in the tumors.GBI Product Description |
